I am using this time to reflect back on all my years, not just the last one. I do feel that in order to move forward, one must look back as well, thus giving oneself perspective of where they have been, the interesting things they have done and lessons they have learned. I do think living in the moment is important, but the past is what has made me...well, ME! And I believe that is true for our cultural history as well. Hence, my interest in ancient art and historical places. Those aspects of our past color and tint our perceptions of today. We have lost some knowledge and gained more but need to remember that which came before.
Welcome to the new and improved ArcheoModern Designs site! Where I will endeavor to keep you, my interesting and interested fans, up to date on not only what I am doing, but what I am researching, discovering or experimenting with.
To start with, although it is over and done now, I recently had my work at the Italian Festival at Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin Texas. It was an interesting mix of olive oil and art. Not my stuff, just the random vendors at this fund raiser. But I do have to say, some of the best blood orange olive oil I have ever tasted from Con Olio!
So in my research for creating some "Italian" themed artwork, looking up aspects of Neptune, who is the Lord of Horses, I came across the name Neptune Equestor. Apparently, Neptune is also the god of Horse-Racing! Which as we all know from Ben Hur was very very popular in the Roman Colliseum. So next time you are at the track, do some homage to Neptune Equestor and see how you fare on the ponies. :)
